Reading an article in the local rag, it seems that even simple pleasures are not allowed to be left outside. Over a period of three weeks before Christmas, three sets of Christmas lights were stolen off the tree outside the Almshouses in Bedworth, which were placed there primarily for the pleasure of the old folk who live in the home, but as it is in the centre of Bedworth, it also provides pleasure for people walking through the town on a dreary afternoon.
it seems that the lights have been taken and then replaced by a new set, for them to be taken again. perhaps by the same group of mindless people or by different ones. However, where is the respect gone for other people's property.
It saddens me greatly that we live in culture where people have to spoil the enjoyment of others simply because they are selfish and show they don't care for anyone else.
The old folk didn't do that when they were young. They worked hard and respected others. Nowadays our culture shows people live and fight for themselves.
In Germany, there were objects such as christmas trees (with and without lights) simply tied to bollards in the town (to prevent the wind from blowing them away). These trees were never wrecked or stolen. Shops left candles outside in pretty glass containers. These were still there the next day and the day after. In the UK, they would be wrecked in less than a few hours. Why?
What has happened to the education system and the parental moral system we have in the UK?
Why do youngsters (and others) think it is 'fun' to go on a wrecking spree?
We need to seriously think about how these people will be brought up and how they will let their kids in the future do things without respect, because otherwise our society will become completely heathen.
